Shoji floor lamp

Having an exotic piece of furniture in the house is not only a source of pride it’s also very relaxing. Shoji lamps will fill your home with a soothing light and a modern, yet unique style. Unlike a traditional ceiling lamp, a Shoji lamp can be moved from one place to another, without putting any holes in your walls. A Shoji paper floor lamp is also an excellent accessory to have in a yoga studio, a sun tanning salon or any other premises that require feeling of warmth and tranquility .My husband has placed 2 in his office lobby ,one shoji lamp on each side of the reception counter. We usually get them from this online merchant (it's one of the rare places where you can buy authentic Shoji Lamps and get a good deal).

The birth place of these jewels

Japan the “country of the rising sun” is located in the Pacific Ocean. It`s archipelago counts over 3000 islands. Its population consists of over 127 million habitants. According to the UN , it is the Japanese that hold world`s longest life expectancy. Being Zen , sure pays off.

Shoji is a Japanese word, which means “screen”. The broader definition describes a shield, framed in wood with a rice paper membrane. Like the traditional Japanese sliding doors also designed as house partitions. Such a home architecture is common to Japan and is derived from ancient Zen Buddhist dwellings. Its function is symbolic, but also very practical. It provides privacy by partitioning units, and creates added luminosity in the house, when the sun reflects and passes through the rice paper. Without being lit, the lamp will produce a soft glow, when rice paper meets rays of sunlight.

I bought my Shoji floor lamps , after seeing one in a hotel lobby of an upscale hotel in Madrid. When i returned home, i was on a mission to get one of these for myself.Upon research, i discovered Shoji lamps were reputed worldwide and were known to be ambiance accessories par excellence .I never paid attention to them before, because catalog pages can`t reflect all the beauty of these lamps. They are conceived from natural wood that comes in different color finishes .Shoji screens are conceived from 100% natural rice paper. Shoji lamps are made in Japan and their authenticity is guaranteed by the merchant. Unlike a standard lamp shade that fades with time and collects a considerable amount of dust, a Shoji floor lamp does not. They are very easy to clean and need little maintenance. Their price will be slightly higher than any copy of the original Shoji lamp, but it is a great investment to make, given the history and the reputation of the product.

Do not confuse an authentic Shoji lamp with a windowpane Shoji floor lamp, which is a cheaper replica of the actual Japanese lamp. These lamps are manufactured in Southern China, rather than in Japan. Windowpane lamps are also made with rice paper and framed with spruce wood. Obviously, you will not own an authentic Shoji lamp, but it will closely resemble the original. I personally avoid this option, you get what you pay for.

A Shoji floor lamp is a great accessory to have in any home or office. Not only does it save counter/desk space, but you will also contribute that “little extra something”, to your unit`s allure.

I think that my Shoji lamp added a whole lot of character and style to my house! Click here to check out colors and sizes available.
